For Us, By Us: Melanin Muse’s New Chapter in Global Travel
melanin muse® was born during the uncertainty of Covid-19 — a moment when the world paused, and many of us were forced to reflect on who we were, where we belonged, and how we wanted to move forward. At its core, melanin muse® began as a space for Black women to own their narratives without interruption. That foundation remains sacred.
Over time, the vision expanded. Travel has always been part of how I build connection, culture, and community. In 2023, I formalized this work and became a Travel Advisor, which allows me to bring structure and intention to travel experiences that bring our people together across borders.
This next chapter of melanin muse® reflects clarity and alignment. melanin muse® is now a digital platform and global community where storytelling, culture, wellness, and intentional group travel intersect — powered by technology, shaped by lived experience, and guided by purpose. We are committed to educating our people, deepening our connection to global Black culture, and creating pathways for collective elevation around the world.
For more than a decade, Simone and I have evolved in parallel, our entrepreneurial paths moving in quiet alignment. She is a travel journalist, senior editor at Travel Noire, and a trusted creative maven. Together, we are welcoming you into a global community where exploration is shared, culture is centered, and every experience is unapologetically for us, by us.

Why Travel Is Revolutionary for Black Travelers
For Black travelers, movement has never been neutral. Our ability to cross borders, claim rest, and see the world on our own terms has long been defined by systems not built for or with us in mind. Travel has often come with an added layer of calculation, from restricted mobility and economic exclusion to the quiet ways we’ve been made to feel out of place abroad. Part of our planning involves, subtly (or loudly), asking: Where will we be welcomed? Where will we be safe? Where will we be seen?
Choosing to travel anyway, and to do so with intention, is a powerful act of self-affirmation and renewal. It is a refusal to shrink our lives or our curiosity. Reclaiming the right to move freely is not about escapism; it’s a deliberate choice to restore ourselves and pursue the places that keep calling. Each new destination, from the West Indies to East Africa, lets us step out of survival mode, breathe more deeply, and experience our true selves without needing to explain. These exhale-worthy moments are reminders that ease, wonder, and joy belong to us, too.
There’s also the subtle joy that hits when you see yourself reflected in global spaces. In discovering Black communities across the world and relating to the local rhythms of places you’ve never been. Travel exposes you to an expansive diaspora anchored in fortitude, creativity, and shared memory. Each experience reminds us that our stories are everywhere.
At its most transformative, travel invites us back to ourselves. It sharpens how we see ourselves and reimagines our concept of home. It allows us the chance to embrace new ways of moving through the world. For us, travel becomes an act of authorship — redefining the narrative of who gets to explore, who belongs where, and whose presence is welcomed. In choosing to go — boarding the flight and seeing what’s on the other side — we give ourselves room to become more of who we already are.
Meaningful Adventures That Support Local Communities
Melanin Muse’s focus is not simply on where we go, but how we show up once we arrive. Too often, travel is treated as a one-way experience, where places and cultures are consumed without regard for the people who live there. We believe the most meaningful journeys are rooted in care, respect, and mutual exchange.
Responsible travel begins with intention. It invites us to consider who benefits from our presence and how our choices (and dollars) shape the places we visit. From accommodations to excursions, every decision matters. When we travel thoughtfully, we contribute to local economies, help sustain cultural practices, and ensure that communities are not sidelined by the very experiences that draw people in.
Reciprocity is an important part of living up to that. Giving back doesn’t require spectacle; it lives in everyday choices. Staying in locally and Black-owned accommodations. Booking with guides who are deeply connected to their communities. Supporting artisans whose work reflects skill and heritage. These decisions keep resources within the community and help preserve the stories and livelihoods tied to place.
Through Melanin Muse, we’re focusing on itineraries and resources that feel rooted rather than transactional. The goal is to meaningfully engage in ways that acknowledge the people and places that make every trip possible. In doing so, travel becomes something shared — an encounter that leaves us, as travelers, and the communities we visit, richer for it.
Culture-Centered Experiences, Created For Us, By Us
For many of us, the challenge isn’t finding beautiful destinations; it’s finding experiences and resources that feel considered and for the culture. Travel offerings are often built without our perspectives in mind, leaving us to adapt to spaces that don’t value our nuance or to build our own side itineraries. Melanin Muse exists to change that.
What we’re curating is informed by lived experience and cultural awareness, so you — our community — feel both welcomed and understood. From how itineraries are designed to the pace at which we move, our travel style makes room for curiosity, reflection, and joy as you explore new parts of the world.
Travel created for us also means honoring the full range of our interests. It looks like cultural immersions you’ll cherish for a lifetime, meaningful moments of rest, and opportunities to connect with local Black communities across the diaspora. It’s about food that tells a story, spaces that welcome ease, and experiences that deepen our awareness of place and of ourselves.
Community is at the heart of what we’re building. Group travel, for us, is about creating shared cultural experiences anchored in trust and collective intention. There is power in moving together, in knowing that the people around you share similar values and interests.
Melanin Muse is an invitation to travel differently. To choose experiences that feel aligned, culturally rooted, and designed with care. Travel that reflects who we are, where we come from, and where we’re going.
An Opportunity To Journey With Us
Melanin Muse has always been committed to creating space for reflection, curiosity, and connection. As we expand beyond sharing our stories and into curated travel experiences, that sense of care stays the same.
