As melanin muse^® expands into global travel, we know trust matters. Before someone books a group travel experience, they want to know what is included, what the vibe will be, how the group dynamic works, and whether the experience will feel aligned with who they are.

Why We Call Them Journeys

We call them Journeys because travel, for us, has never been just about the destination. A trip may get you from one place to another. A Journey invites you to pay attention to what happens along the way.

For Black travelers and the broader diaspora, movement has always carried meaning. The ability to rest, explore, gather, and experience the world on our own terms is powerful. That is why melanin muse Journeys are designed with care. We are not interested in travel that feels rushed, extractive, or disconnected from the people and places we visit.

We are creating travel experiences rooted in culture, community, restoration, and thoughtful exploration.

The Story Behind the Work

Travel has been part of how I’ve built connections for most of my life.

I started my own travel journeys when I was 14 years old, taking road trips with friends and sisters to several big cities (no chaperones) before I graduated high school.

We weren’t traveling with luxury budgets. We were young, curious, resourceful, and determined to see life beyond what was familiar.

Even then, I was often the person helping us figure out how to get there, where to stay, what to do, and how to make the experience feel meaningful. I understood something powerful:

“Travel helps people dream bigger.”

My gift is creating structure around meaningful moments, so people can feel cared for, connected, and fully present.

melanin muse^® has always been about storytelling, culture, and community. Travel simply gives us another way to bring those stories to life. In 2025, Simone Cheri and I partnered to shape this next chapter with more clarity and intention. Simone Cheri is a travel journalist, senior editor at Travel Noire, and a trusted creative voice. Together, we are building melanin muse Journeys as part of a global community where exploration is shared, culture is centered, and every experience is created with us in mind.

What You Can Expect

Thoughtful Planning Before You Arrive

A melanin muse Journey begins before you pack your bag.

We want travelers to feel informed, prepared, and supported. Before each Journey, you can expect clear communication around travel dates, accommodations, payment deadlines, arrival details, itinerary highlights, optional excursions, travel documents, and any destination-specific information you need to know.

Group travel can feel stressful when details are unclear. Our goal is to reduce that friction so you can focus on preparing for the experience, not chasing down information.

Don’t know what to wear? We create a fashion mood board to give you some inspiration for selecting the perfect ‘fits for the destination and anticipated weather.

A Curated Itinerary with Room to Breathe

We believe in structure, but not over-scheduling.

Each melanin muse Journey will include signature moments designed to bring the group together. That may include a welcome dinner, group photos, cultural experiences, optional excursions, a poolside gathering, a farewell dinner, or a private celebration.

But we also believe travelers need room to make the experience their own. Some people want to join every group activity. Some want to sleep in, visit the spa, explore with their partner, take photos, journal by the water, or enjoy quiet time away from the group.

Both are welcome.

Our itineraries are designed to offer a thoughtful rhythm: enough structure to feel connected, enough freedom to feel restored.

Culture-Centered Experiences

melanin muse Journeys are created with cultural awareness at the center. This means we think carefully about the destinations we choose, the stories we highlight, the local communities we engage, and the experiences we recommend. We are especially interested in travel that deepens our relationship to the global Black diaspora and helps our community see itself reflected across the world.

Culture-centered travel may look different depending on the destination.

It may include food that tells a story, local guides with deep community ties, visits to historic sites, connection with Black-owned businesses, wellness experiences, creative gatherings, or simply the shared joy of being in a beautiful place with people who understand the assignment.

Responsible Travel and Local Connection

We care about how we show up.

Tourism can easily become transactional when travelers consume a destination without considering the people who live there. We want melanin muse Journeys to move differently.

Responsible travel asks better questions.

Who benefits from our presence?

How do our choices support local economies?

Are we engaging with the destination in a way that feels respectful, curious, and reciprocal?

Whenever possible, we aim to highlight locally connected experiences, guides, artisans, businesses, and community-rooted recommendations. Giving back does not always require a grand gesture. Sometimes it lives in everyday travel decisions: where we stay, who we book with, what we buy, and how we move through a place.

We want our Journeys to leave travelers enriched and communities respected.
